Take Action
John Hutton, Secretary of State for Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, and responsible for Britain's energy policy, has given his explicit support for a new generation of coal-fired power stations.
According to Dr James Hansen, Director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, if the Government allows this to happen, “it is demonstrating a grievous lack of understanding of the gravity and urgency of dealing with climate change.”
Please write to ask for a public inquiry about the planning application to build a new coal plant at Kingsnorth, Kent.
The technology of carbon-capture and storage is still years away and CO2 emissions from the power station would undermine the UK’s ability to meet its emission reduction targets.
We need an energy system that is decentralised and that makes use of the energy currently wasted in the process of power generation, a massive drive to ensure energy efficiency and increased investment in small and large-scale renewable energy.
