Transport
Emissions from transport are a major source of greenhouse gases and change needs to come about both through Government policy and in the way that we all make our transport choices.
Forty-one per cent of all journeys made in Britain in 2002/03 were under 2 miles in length. Around a quarter of all car trips were under 2 miles in length.

Traffic levels on UK roads have almost doubled since 1980.
The cost of motoring (allowing for inflation) has fallen since 1997 whereas the cost of public transport continues to rise. The Government plans to spend millions on new roads in an unsustainable attempt to build our way out of congestion.
Air travel is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases and yet airlines pay no tax on aviation fuel.
The Government also plans huge airport expansion to meet the projected demand for air travel. Government forecasts are for 500 million passengers a year by 2030 – up from 229 million in 2005. To meet the challenge of climate change, the Government should manage this demand not plan to cater for it.
Local Trains: Bedwyn passenger group now have a very informative web site with timetables and excellent inofrmation about train journeys, possible destinations and money saving tips. See http://www.bedwyntrains.org.uk/
liftshare is a social enterprise. It was set up in 1997 with the initial aim of making more efficient use of the millions of empty car seats on UK roads by encouraging and enabling more people to share their car journeys.
